The Choroi C Flute is a successor to the Interval and Pentatonic Flutes. It is typically introduced into the curriculum towards the end of the third or in the beginning of the fourth grade, depending on the maturity of the children. A free, open and flexible tone distinguishes the Choroi C Flute from the traditional soprano recorder. The tone is easily molded by breathing and articulation, making the C Flute especially suitable as a school or group instrument. The traditional recorder was developed as a solo instrument and has a loud, piercing sound with many harmonics. The Choroi C Flute was developed to have a gentle, transparent sound with fewer harmonics. Because of this, a player in a group will be as much, or more, aware of the group sound as of his/her own contribution. This provides a more social mode of playing and is much easier on the ear. All C Flutes are available with either German Fingering (8 holes, played with traditional recorder fingerings) or Choroi Fingering (9 holes, no split fingerings). As the Choroi fingering is more intuitive for the beginner, most schools choose this option. This C Flute also offer either traditional tuning - a = 440 Hz (standard modern tuning) - or the modern "sun tone" tuning - a = 432 Hz. The classroom model of the C Flute is made of maple, but the C Flute is also available in olive, jacaranda, rosewood and grenadilla woods in both tuning and fingering options. These flutes are available by special order only. Please write us for availability. You may use our Price List for direct on-line ordering.
